Joan Haaland Paddock, DM, is an Applied Lesson Professional Musician at George Fox University and retired Professor of Music from Linfield University, where she served as Director of Instrumental Activities and Chamber Music Coordinator for thirty years. She holds the distinction of being the first woman to receive a doctorate in trumpet performance from Indiana University, where she earned the prestigious Performer's Certificate under Charles Gorham.

A Fulbright scholar to Norway, Paddock studied with trumpeter Harry Kvebæk at the Norwegian State Academy of Music. Her diverse accomplishments include an Emmy Award for original music composed and performed for the documentary "Journey from Death." As a Bach Trumpet Clinician for Conn-Selmer Music Corporation, she performs as a soloist with bands across the United States and serves as an adjudicator and guest conductor internationally, with recent engagements in Italy, Norway, and Canada.

Paddock performs with Oregon's Britt Festival Orchestra and as a substitute musician with the Portland Opera, Oregon Symphony, and Big Horn Brass. She is particularly known for her performances on the Lur, a traditional Scandinavian wooden trumpet, at major Nordic festivals including Norway's Northern Lights Festival and North America's largest Scandinavian Festival, Norsk Høstfest.

Her professional affiliations include the International Women's Brass Conference, International Trumpet Guild, Oregon Music Educators Association, Oregon Band Directors Association, and she is an honorary member of the Northwest Bandmasters Association.
